Prince

In 1996 Prince turned to High Society to bring his visionary custom costuming to life and what began as a collaboration in an LA atelier grew into a twenty-year partnership that produced more than two hundred unique garments. We learned early on that translating his unbounded creativity required not just technical skill but a shared willingness to push beyond fashion’s usual limits. From purple brocade jackets to sculptural bodysuits, each design was conceived as a piece of performance art.

Every garment was meticulously handcrafted by our in-house team, with Prince’s inventive spirit guiding every choice. We selected fabrics that ranged from liquid silks to metallic meshes and developed custom zipper pulls, hidden snaps, and intricate hand stitching to echo the complexity of his persona. Whether we were shaping a fitted tailcoat or constructing a voluminous cape, our process always began with a conversation about what the piece needed to express.

A vision brought to life: Prince’s custom look for the 2010, from first sketch to final stitch by High Society.

Our work with Prince exemplifies High Society’s belief that clothing can transform, empower, and inspire. Richard Lim and Prince envisioned costumes that ignored societal norms, focusing instead on invention and emotional resonance. The results were more than outfits—they were wearable statements that existed outside the constraints of time and place, fusing depth, craft, and enigma in equal measure.

Though few possess Prince’s singular flair, we maintain that every client deserves a wardrobe that reflects who they truly are. The same dedication that brought Prince’s boldest ideas to life informs everything we do, whether we are crafting a bespoke suit for a milestone event or designing a statement piece that challenges convention. At High Society we approach each project with unwavering commitment, turning audacious ideas into wearable masterpieces.
